Max's Arrival - Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Though not due for almost another 3 weeks, I quite surprised to wake up around 7:30 a.m. and realize my water had broke! Throughout the pregnancy I had always thought I would go earlier than my due date, though Kerry repeatedly told me he thought I would go 2 weeks past. When the time came I was still in a bit of denial. In fact, I told my mom not to say anything quite yet in case it was false labor. I later realized that after you water breaks delivery is imminent.

I wasn't having contractions of any sort and felt great so I took my time to pack our bags (while Kerry reminded me that it wasn't vacation that I was packing for and to try to pack lite) do a little laundry and get our dog Sadie ready to go to my in-laws house. It was tax day so we also stopped by the bank to set up IRA's, to the accountant's to sign our taxes and to our shop to order a few parts. I felt great and figured why get there sooner than needed and just have to wait around at the hospital, but by now it was after 10:30 a.m. and Kerry was getting a bit anxious and wanted to get going so we did.

We checked in at the hospital around 11:30 a.m. I was later glad Kerry hurried me along because once we got there they immediately started me on antibiotics because they were concerned about infection for me and the baby and gave me pit because they wanted to get things going as soon as possible. Now when they said they wanted to induce labor with Pitocen, I was definitely not thrilled. I had just heard of 2 people who were induced the week before me and ended up it with c-sections. I really didn't have any other options though so at 12:30 they started me on a higher than normal dose of pitosen and continued giving it to me throughout the day. At around 5:30 is was given an epidural which was wonderful and I highly recommend it to anyone! The doctor said she would be happy to have a baby by midnight, but after the epidural things started to move along quickly and we were holding our little boy by 9:00 p.m. Everything went great -we are so thankful for our wonderful doctor, great nurses and the safe arrival of our son.
